Fertilizer – Lawns will need to be fertilized after sustaining damage from winter. Certain grasses (mostly cool season) and plants prefer to be fertilized in later spring (early June) so make sure you check before applying. You may want to do a soil test beforehand so if your soil needs nutrients, you can purchase the correct fertilizer.
Pre-emergent Weed Control – Spring is a great time to apply pre-emergent weed control. It gives you a running start on the crabgrass and dandelion fight. It is said that a good time to apply Pre Emergent Weed Control is when Forsythia blooms.
Mulch – Mulch keeps roots moist and can make plant beds look neater. Mulch can also keep roots cool in the summer and when it decomposes, it can act as fertilizer. Just don’t let mulch get deeper than 3 inches.
