Important Information On Canal Street Construction in Holyoke on 8/24/20 – 8/26/20

Customers who plan to visit the Holyoke store between 7AM, Monday, August 24th through 5PM, Wednesday, August 26th should be aware that South Canal St from Main St to Sargeant St will be closed to thru traffic. Traffic will be detoured along Main Street and Sargeant Street as shown in the attached PDF. This detour is needed to allow Ludlow Construction to prepare for the installation of a new sewer pipeline beneath the 3rd Level Canal from South Canal St to South Water St. After this work is completed, one lane of travel on South Canal St, heading southwest from Cabot St to Main St, will remain shut down until the end of September while the new pipeline is being installed.

This much-needed project is being completed by Ludlow Construction as part of the City’s ongoing Jackson Street Area Sewer Separation Project. This $10 million EPA mandated project involves the separation of storm drains and sewer lines through the South Holyoke area. These improvements will extend the life of the City’s utilities in this area and reduce the discharge of combined sewage to the Connecticut River during significant rainfall events.
